The Japan of Arts - Spring Vol. 1 No. 1 Interesting pre-War art journal edited by Matsubara Chojiro
[Japan] Scarce Japanese art journal that seems to have ended after this inaugural edition (probably due to the situation in Japan in the late 1930s). Published in spring 1937, it contains tipped in colour illustrations by artists Usen Ogawa, Somei Yuki, Keigetsu Matsubayashi, Shuho Ikegami, Tossaishu Tanaka, Shinsui Ito, Tokan Fudeya, Shunsui Nagata, Tomiji Neagari, Ryuo Kijima, Kyuho Noda, Yasushi Sugiyama, Nanpu Katayama, Senjin Satakiura [Senjin Gokura], Hoshun Yamaguchi, Dogyu [Togyu] Okumura, and Chou Ota (cover illustration). The miscellenious writings [sic] section is interesting in that it contains some of the Japanese artists' impressions and opinions on art and other topics. Only 2 copies found at Japanese institutions.
