Stereoview Photo of Two Japanese Merchants by Charles-Louis Du Pin
[Japan] Very scarce stereoview photo of two Japanese merchants. If you look closely, you can see these images were not actually taken with a stereoview camera but are in fact two very similar photos taken with a single lens camera. The poses of both men are slightly different in each photo. Charles-Louis Du Pin (1814-1869) was in Japan for just 4 months (from January - May, 1861) and came with Antoine Fauchery (1823-1861) who sadly died in Yokohama in April 1861. There is a small possibility that Fauchery took these photos but, due to his illness, it is unknown if he managed to actually take any photos during his short stay in Japan.
