Shitakiri Suzume - The Tongue-Cut Sparrow Scarce Dutch edition

[Japan] Translated by Pieter Gerard van Schermbeek (1848-1901), this is the first of the only two known Dutch editions of Kobunsha's fairy tale series. Both were translations of 'The Tongue-Cut Sparrow' on plain paper (not crepe) with this one dated 1886 and the second edition published by H. Honig (Utrecht)  in 1892. The later Honig edition has the title in Dutch on the cover ('De Musch mit de Genipte Tong'), whereas this first edition has the title in romanised Japanese 'Shitikiri Suzume' and the Dutch title on the first page. The illustrations are the same in both editions, but the text layout is slightly different.
