Manuscript on the Assassination of a Corrupt Official Handwritten illustrations of torture methods
[Japan] Almost certainly written during the end of the Edo era (c1860s) when different factions in Japan were vying for power and respect, such manuscripts were produced showing torture and mutilation in order to intimidate those on opposing sides. A date of 1862 appears so this manuscript would most likely date from soon after that. Titled, 'Kanri churiku no zu' in Japanese.
Author unidentified. 23.5 x 12cm (when folded).
