Woodblock print of Russian couple with camera by Utagawa Yoshikazu
[Japan] Not found in the main reference book of Yokohama prints, 'Shitaisei Yokohama Ukiyoe' (Yurindo, 1979), this interesting work shows a Russian couple with a camera. This leads to the question of who the photographer was and there can only be very few candidates as the print was published in February 1861 when there were very few Westerners living in Japan. The camera has what appears to be the word 'Sasinkyo' [Shashinkyo? i.e. 'camera'] written on it.
