About Kuroda Kyoto Manufacturer of Artistic Bronze and Damascene Wares

[Japan] Illustrated company booklet in English promoting the products of S. Kuroda, a well-known store in Kyoto that sold high-quality bronzes and other items. The company was established by Kuroda Kiichi and he retired around 1915 when his son, S. Kuroda, took over the business. This booklet was published around that time as it also includes references made to Kuroda in Herbert Ponting's book, 'In Lotus Land Japan' (1910). Ponting wrote. 'Kuroda is a bronze-inlayer whose only compeer is Jomi. He is a very tall, stern-looking, clean-shaven man, and speaks English fluently with a deep rich voice. Few who have not been to Kyoto know anything about the artistic marvels created under his roof. His masterpieces are never seen in any shop, for, like a few others of his contemporaries, he scorns all dealings with the trade. His output is small, but he finds a market for it all with visiting connoisseurs.'
