[Japan] Fascinating medium format albumen photo showing a group of Japanese men peddling their prints, curios and other items to sailors on board HMS Edgar. One of the sailor's caps reads 'HMS Edgar'. The vessel served on the China Station (which included Japan) around 1895 and then again from around 1900. Probably taken by a crew member when the ship was berthed at Yokohama. This is the first such photo we have ever seen. Captioned below on mount, 'Japanese Bazaar on Upper Deck'.

Photographer unidentified. c1902.

14.2 x 19.9cm.

In very good condition. Slight discoloration at edges. Otherwise minor age wear only. Mounted on thin card. p37061901
