Large Format Photo of HMS Iron Duke officers at Yokohama Superb photo with all crew identified (incl. two Japanese men)

[Japan] Important photo attributed to Felix Beato showing the officers and crew of HMS Iron Duke that was assigned to the China Station (later called the Asiatic Station) that included Japan from 1871-1875 and again from 1878-1883. HMS Iron Duke was at port in Yokohama from 16 May to 7 July, 1873 and this large format photo was taken in June during this visit. The photo includes boatswain Henry Cooper VC, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery in 1855 during the Crimean War, but was actually court martialled at the end of June 1873 for drunkenness in Yokohama, just after this photo was taken. As a result, he was dismissed from the ship and lost six months' seniority. Interestingly, there are two named Japanese sailors on board who are both described as 'Clerks'. All fifty people in the photo have a small number written on them and are identified thanks to a separate, single leaf of paper with their names and titles written on both sides. The names are 1.
