Woodblock printed triptych of Tokyo's Prosperity and Bustling Streets with photo studio display board visible
[Japan] Very interesting woodblock printed triptych that tries to show a lot of the rapid modernisation of Japan from wheeled vehicles, Western clothing and beverages. Of most interest is the display board outside a photographic studio. There were very few Japanese photographers operating in 1870 when this print was made, so we believe it may show the studio of Kanamaru Genzo (1832-1908) who opened a studio in Asakusa in 1868. The Tsukiji Hotel can be seen in the background.
