Large Format Photo of Tea Processing with export tea boxes and description

[Japan] Large format, albumen print photo showing Japanese ladies (and a couple of men) preparing tea for export. Interestingly, the labels on the stack of export boxes can be read so we can see that this batch of Japan tea went under the label, 'The Royal Chop' (hence the chysanthemum logo) and was to be sent to P.H. Kelly Mercantile Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota. The mount indicates that this photo was produced for the Philadelphia Museum. A very similar label for Foley Bros & Kelly can be found on p.100 in the book 'Ranji' by Ide Nobuko (see final image).

[probably Yokohama]. Photographer unknown. ND (c1900).

23.2 x 17.7cm.

In very good condition. Mounted on thick card with detailed English description of process on rear. Mount at bit work at corners. Otherwise very good. p37041852b
