Illustrated Book of Japanese Coins Large format book with colour lithographs
[Japan] Large format book containing high quality lithographic illustrations of Japanese coins of the day (including a trade dollar) and from the past. The preface states that in order to reproduce the differences in the colors of the coins, lithographic printing was employed to produce rich tonal gradations, and the paper and inks were carefully selected. The book comes with a wooden box inscribed with the book title and has an inscription inside indicating that the book was presented to Nakai Hiromu (1838-1894), the important but largely forgotten personality from the Meiji era. Titled, 'Kahei Seizu' in Japanese on cover.
