Large Format Photo of Kudanzaka, Tokyo showing the Joto Myodai tower and Nicholai-do cathedral
[Japan] Large format, hand-coloured albumen print photo showing the Joto Myodai tower that was built in 1871 and actually also served as a lighthouse. After being damaged in the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923, the tower was repaired and relocated in 1925 a nearby location and can still be seen today. Nicholai-do, the Russian Orthodox cathedral in the background built in 1891, was also seriously damaged in the earthquake but was repaired and can also be seen today. Titled in negative at lower left, '168 KUDANZAKA, TOKIO'.
