Woodblock printed triptych of the Chiarini Circus by Utagawa Masanobu
[Japan] A wonderful triptych showing the various acrobatic feats of Chiarini's Royal Italian Circus that gave numerous performances in Tokyo in 1886. Titled, 'Sekai Dai-ichi Charine Daikyokuba' ['The Equestrian Feats of Chiarini's Number One Circus in the World'] and filled with performing horses along with some elephants, tigers and acrobats including two one-legged men who became star attractions. Giuseppe Chiarini (1823-1897) created a famous circus that performed around the world from the Americas to Australia and from Europe to Asia.

In good to very good condition. Some minor age wear. Some of the red colour on the left panel has run a little. Unbacked with nice bleedthrough. u37021819
