[Japan] Very nice, hand drawn, illustrated manuscript showing how food should be prepared, decorated and displayed for various formal ceremonies such as New Year and during the different seasons of the year. The contents pages lists New Year's dishes, auspicious arrangements of food, floral displays and how to display and cut up various game birds and fish such as sea bream (tai), duck, lobster, crab, and so on. The correct layout of plates is also described and illustrations of different kinds of shellfish follow. More decorations are shown and then displays of eggplant, flowers and other floral elements for auspicious events. The manuscript was written by Hosokawa Senkichi (Nobushige) of whom we cannot find any information about. He dated the manuscript 1882.

In good condition. Covers are worn with stains and some creasing. Internally good with general age wear, some toning and thumbing to lower corners. nb37030002
