[Japan] Both books with photographic illustrations and were published together by (the) Bureau for Local Affairs, Home Department, the Rural Life of Japan looks at Japan's industrial spirit, moral spirit, and influences of the authorities and leaders and has a fine reference map loose as issued inside the rear cover. Relief Work of Japan covers the history of relief works, the present state of relief works including the nurture of poor children and orphans, nurseries for infants, homes for the aged, work-supply and employment offices, education of the masses, education of the blind and the deaf-mute and care of stammering, reformatory works and the protection of ex-convicts, dispensaries and medical treatment, rich people's work for the public welfare, ending with a conclusion. Although not mentioned, the books may have been published for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915.

Both in very good condition. Rural Life is in fine condition with only a hint of wear. Relief Work is very good to fine. The string binding is broken but the book is still tight. One mark on cover. Internally fine. nb36120002
