Woodblock Printed Triptych of Kaigan Dori at Yokohama Iconic work by Utagawa Hiroshige III

[Japan] One of the most iconic Yokohama-e woodblock prints by Hiroshige III. The controversial English consulate building is visible along with the 'Zo (Zou) no hana' ['Elephant's trunk'] breakwaters that were first built straight in 1859 and then reshaped to be curved in 1867, hence the elephant trunk nickname. This triptych shows us part of the bustling port town of Yokohama in 1870.

[Edo]. Iseya Kisaburo. October, 1870.

Each panel 36.8 x 24.8cm.

In very good condition. Some age wear and a few marks. Tiny chips at some edges. Otherwise very good. Unbacked with nice bleedthrough. u37011801
