[Japan] Tanaka Kazusada (1872-1921) was a noted Japanese sociologist. He was the first director of the Keio University Library, the seventh president of the Japan Library Association, and the first professor of sociology at Keio University. He was born in Yamagata, studied at Keio University and went to Graduate School at Yale University in 1901. He also studied social psychology in France and returned to Japan in 1904 around the time when this photo was taken. He died in 1921 after a cerebral hemorrhage. Inscribed by Tanaka on rear, 'To Mr. Arthur Chambers, New Haven USA. Kazusada Tanaka, Tokyo Japan, December 1904'. Portrait is also signed on front by Tanaka.
