Enchiridion Medicum 1838 translated by Sugita Gentan

[Japan] A very scarce rangaku work in surprisingly nice condition. This particular work was copied from an 1838 Dutch edition of Enchiridion Medicum ('The Practice of Medicine') by the German physician, Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland (1762-1836). The Japanese translator, Sugita Gentan (1818-89), was the great-grandson of the reknowned Japanese rangaku scholar Sugita Genpaku (1733-1817). In Japan, there appear to be just two institutional copies of this book, one at the National Diet Library in Tokyo and the other at Dōshisha University in Kyoto.
