[Japan] Lovely pair of books showing various aspects of the province of Mino (part of present-day Gifu prefecture), with volume 1 mainly focussing on ukai, or comorant fishing, that can still be seen today in the same area and is a tradition that has existed for at least 1,300 years in Japan, and volume 2 with illustrations and descriptions of scenic places in the area. The illustrations are by Ikeda Takahiro. Complete in 2 volumes. The title page of volume 1 is dated January, 1880 and the colophon in volume 2 is dated Dec 1879 (when publication permission was given).

Vol.1 - 43 leaves. Vol. 2 - 36 leaves. Each 22.5 x 15.5cm.

 

Both volumes in almost fine condition. The rear cover of volume 1 has an area of discolouration as can be seen. Otherwise both books are fine.  b36051615
