Soda San in London - A Farcical Comedy in Three Acts by Mr. Tarōkaja (Masuda Tarō)

[Japan] Very scarce guide and script for a comedy performed in Japan in 1908 that starred the famous actress and geisha, Kawakami Sadayakko (1871-1946), whose photographic illustration is present along with those of the other female actors in the play. Tarōkaja was the pen name of Masuda Tarō (1875-1953), the second son of Masuda Takashi (1848-1938), who, as a teenager, interpreted for Townsend Harris and went on to establish the Mitsui Trading Co. and became its first president at a young age in 1876. Tarōkaja was actually a businessman but also wrote various plays, comedies and songs. Aside from the wonderful, decorative covers in English, all text is in Japanese. The booklet ends with some advertisements for stationers Itoya and other companies.
