Woodblock printed diptych of kabuki actors with movable faces by Toyohara Chikayoshi

[Japan] A fascinating woodblock printed kabuki yakusha-e showing two actors each with multiple flaps that can be lifted to reveal slightly different faces. The left panel has three (of four) extra faces and the right panel has all four as issued. Such prints with movables are quite scarce, even more so with multiple movables.

[Tokyo]. Fukuda Kumajirō. 1878. Block carver: Watanabe Yatarō

Each 35.1 x 24.2cm.

In good condition. The left panel has some small holes near the centre left edge and is missing one of the attached folding faces. Otherwise good with minor age wear. The right panel is good with only minor age wear. Both prints are unbacked with nice bleedthrough. u36031565
