Set of 10 Japanese Fairy Tales in Russian Previously unknown edition of Hasegawa's series

A very important discovery in the world of Japanese crepe paper books and the publications of Hasegawa Takejiro. This is a previously unknown set of ten books on plain (presumably Russian) paper bound together in a contemporary binding. The pages are also folded at the edge Japanese style. The books appear to have been printed chromolithographically and copied from the original editions by Hasegawa. A few of the volumes even have their Japanese colophons that appear to have been handwritten. The ten fairy tales are all in Russian and, in order, are, 'The Old man and the Devils', 'The Cub's Triumph', 'Urashima', 'The Battle of the Monkey and the Crab', 'The Silly Jellyfish', 'The Ogre's Arm', 'The Hare of Inaba', 'The Mouse's Wedding', 'The Tongue-Cut Sparrow', and 'The Serpent with Eight Heads'. Ivan Sytin was Russia's leading publisher and it is very interesting that these books were published just at the time of the Russo-Japanese War.

Moscow. Ivan Sytin. 1904.
