CDV of Japanese Group in Hong Kong Taken by Pun Lun

[Japan] A very interesting CDV showing a group of three Japanese ladies and one Japanese man. The man is standing on one leg and has one of his straw sandals off and it is possible that they were part of an acrobatic troupe on their way to or from Europe. Various Japanese acrobats performed overseas from the mid-1860s. Pun Lun operated a very successful photographic studio in Hong Kong from around 1864. The address on the rear of 'No.56, Queen's Road' (without the word 'Central' after it probably indicates a date of 1865-1868 when he used that particular address.

Hong Kong. Pun Lun. c1867.

5.9 x 9.2cm.

In very good condition with only minor age wear. 'Japanese' written faintly in pencil on rear. p35101484
