Woodblock Print of Rutherford Alcock Admiring Mount Fuji by Utagawa Yodhimori
[Japan] Almost certainly a depiction of Rutherford Alcock (1809-97), the first British Consul-General and Minister Plenipotentiary in Japan, who, in September 1860, was the first Westerner to climb Mount Fuji. He is shown here with a Chinese man and they both look in awe at Mount Fuji.
