[Japan] Actually four parts from the Transactions of the Asiatic Society of Japan, the first and longest paper (pp.249-275) is titled, 'Destructive Earthquakes on Japan' and contains an important record of historical earthquakes in Japan from 416A.D. to 1872 by I[chizo] Hattori (1851-1929). He read the paper at the Society on 23rd March, 1878. The second paper (pp.277-283) is titled, 'Notes on the Manufacture of Ohiroi (White Lead), by R[obert] W[illiam] Atkinson (1850-1929), which was read before the Society on 23rd March, 1878. Then there are the minutes from the Asiatic Society general meeting (pp.285-290), and lastly (pp.353-355 plus 2 fold-out tables) a paper titled, 'An Examination of the Earthquakes recorded at the Meteorological Observatory, Tokiyo' [sic], by W[infield S[cott] Chaplin (1847-1918)., read before the Society on 22nd June, 1878.
