A Foreigner Studying at Night Woodblock print by Utagawa Yoshikazu
[Japan] A very nice woodblock print by Yoshikazu of a Western man reading in the evening and his wife looking in the mirror. Both rooms are lit by candlelight and the print is titled in Japanese, 'Gaikokujin Yugaku no Zu' ['Foreigner Studying at Night']. The censor seal indicates this print was published in October 1860 when there were very few Westerners in Japan and even fewer Western women.
