Large Format Photo of Western Lady with Farsari studio stamp on rear
[Japan] Unsually large portrait photo most likely of a French lady. The photo looks as if it may actually be a photo of a photo. Possibly it was enlarged at Farsari's studio in Yokohama. Inscribed, 'Gd mère Fontaine. B. Legrand' [grandmother Fontaine. B. Legrand]. There was a surgeon named Legrand, who served on various French vessels in the 1880s and 1890s, so this lady may have been related to him. Two Farsari studio stamps on rear of photo.
