Large Format Photo of Yokohama Station Scarce, early view with train visible
[Japan] Wonderful, albumen photo showing an early view of Yokohama Station (near present day Sakuragicho Station) with numerous ships at anchor in the background. Near the center of the photo, a train can be seen just to the left of the long train shed. A large area is undeveloped in the photo, indicating it is quite an early photo. The train line from Yokohama to Tokyo opened in 1872 so this photo would date from quite soon after that. Numbered at lower left, '127' in negative.
Photographer unknown (probably Stillfried). 25.7 x 20.5cm.
In very good condition. Minor damage and chip with minor loss at lower left corner. Photo has been removed from a mount and there are some remnants of the backing paper along with some faint, illegible writing in pencil. p34101271
