Photo Book of Meiji-Era Western-style Buildings in Japan Including the studios of Ogawa Kazumasa and Maruki Riyo

[Japan] Quite possibly unique album of 50 collotype photos of various buildings, some of which are identifiable. Images include the French Consulate building in Yokohama, Meiji Fire Insurance Building, Tokyo Chozo Bank in Kyobashi, the studios of Japanese photographers, Ogawa Kazumasa, and Maruki Riyo. Also some photos appear to be of houses probably on the Bluff at Yokohama. The photos seem to be taken with a focus on architectural features of the buildings. It seems quite plausible that Ogawa (or possibly Maruki) was the photographer. An important record of buildings in Japan circa 1880.

25 leaves. 20 x 27.3cm.

In very good condition. The covers have been replaced. Internally very good with some tiny pinprick-sized wormholes affecting the margins of some pages. Small ownership stamp with the name Okubo on first blank leaf. nb34120006
