Angel Island - The Ellis Island of the West Immigration Station for Chinese, Japanese, and more

Very scarce, illustrated book by Mary Bamford covering the facilities and processes on the island, Japanese 'Picture Brides', Chinese New Year's Day in America, Chinese cemeteries in San Francisco, immigrants from India, and Koreans. Angel Island, a 20-minute ferry ride from San Francisco, was in use from 1910-1940 to process almost all prospective immigrants arriving on the West Coast of the U.S. from Asia, and especially to restrict the number of people coming to the U.S. from China and Japan. Bamford takes a rather synpathetic view explaining the culture of the hopeful immigrants as well as the plight of some of them.
