Kyosai Hyakki Gadan Pictures of One Hundred Demons
[Japan] A masterpiece by Kawanabe Kyosai (1831-1889), who was nicknamed, 'The Painting Demon'. Sometimes translated as, 'Night Parade of One Hundred Demons', this Japanese orihon is a feast for the eyes. The variety of ghastly ghouls, goblins, and other fantastic beasts is amazing. First published in 1890 (the year after Kyosai's death), this is a second edition published in 1895. Both editions are very scarce, especially so in good condition.

In good to very good condition. Covers a bit worn. Some darkening to edges. A few pages with slightly more darkening and one page with some staining. A couple of pages with minor separation at fold but only a couple of cm. Original title slip present. b34051187
