The Favorite Flowers of Japan - 3rd ed. by Mary E. Unger
[Japan] One of Hasegawa's nicest publications, this woodblock printed book covers all the main Japanese flowers. Illustrated throughout and with Louis Boehmer's Yokohama nursery ad in the rear. Mary Unger (1871-1944) was the wife of Alfred Unger (1865-1938), who took over the business in 1890 when Boehmer retired. The first edition was published in 1901, and the second in 1906. In another example of Hasegawa re-using woodblocks to avoid extra costs, although 'Second Edition' is clearly stated on the title page, the Japanese colophon clearly mentions this is the 3rd edition of Meiji 44 (1911). This third edition did not come with the price list that was in the earlier editions. This particular book contains a duplicate page on cherry blossoms (p.6-7).
