Folding Album of Crepe Paper Prints of Children and their Activities by Miyagawa Shuntei

Lovely album containing 24 woodblock prints on crepe paper titled, 'Kodomo Fuzoku', which means, 'Customs of Children' or more accurately, 'What Kids Do' along with a title page and contents page also on crepe paper. All mounted on paper and quite thick boards. The illustrations are all by Miyagawa Shuntei (1873-1914) and each one is titled at the bottom in Japanese and includes Kite flying, Playing with a dog, Hopping on one leg, At the zoo, Playing with string, Making shadow pictures, Hide and seek etc. All prints are dated 1897 (Meiji 30).

26.3 x 18.4 x 3.5cm.

 

In very good condition overall. Covers a bit worn and frayed at some upper and lower edges. Rear cover a bit stained. Title on cover was written later. Prints are all fine and bright though most are starting to peel off from the mounted paper.
