The Flowers of Japan and the Art of Floral Arrangement Complete with the 14 large colour woodblock prints
Impressive and seminal work by Josiah Conder. Published in a large format probably so the 14 coloured woodblock prints could fit the book in their full 'oban' size. First edition.
Tokyo. Hakubunsha. 1891.
36 x 26.5cm. xii,,136 + 40 plates of diagrams and 14 colour woodblock printed illustrations by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Kawanabe Kyosui (daughter of Kawanabe Kyosai).
Covers a bit worn with some minor spotting. Silk string binding ties have been moved (probably so the book could be opened more) and have been replaced with plain string. Silk covering on binding worn away. Corners slightly bumped. Internally very good with minor wear and a few stray marks. Scarce with all colour woodblocks intact.
