Ashley A. Vantine (or Van Tine) established his import business in 1866. Though undated, on the final page this catalogue mentions the business having started, '...over a quarter of a century ago', indicating a publication date of around 1895. The catalogue is comprehensive and includes numerous illustrations of vases, rose jars, lamp shades, table wares, lanterns, fans, bamboo furniture, teakwood, Japanese fret work, toys, novelties, dolls, Japanese hand warmers, paper parasols, Japanese paper napkins, kimono, gowns, silks, cushions, cloisonne, swords, armor, bronzes (including a bronze lantern for $2,500!), carpets and coffee tables and more. Such early Vantine's catalogues are now scarce.

In very good condition except for the top 1.5cm of the front cover which has been cut away and the top of the title page which has some browning and an old repair. Internally very good to fine condition. nb33030004
