Album of 47 Large Format Photos of Japan by Stillfried (and some Beato images)
[Japan] A beautiful, impressive and somewhat unusual album containing 47 large format uncoloured albumen photos by Raimund von Stillfried including a photo of Kamakura showing friends and business associates Felice Beato and Charles Wirgman taking a rest on steps. The range of photos of Fukiage (present day Imperial Gardens in Tokyo) are also scarce. Although the album is titled on the cover 'Tokio Nikko', there are a number of photos of people, Yokohama, Mt. Fuji, Kamakura and Hakone. The clasp on the album has kept it in unusually fine condition with all images flat and clear. Most photos are captioned with Stillfried's lettering but are unnumbered, indicating this is most likely an early Stillfried album.
Album measures 36 x 28 x 5.5cm. Each photo approx. 28 x 22cm.
In fine condition. Album with minor wear to covers only. All edges gilt and photos all mounted on thick card.
