Wampaku Monogatari Dai I The first Western children's stories translated into Japanese

Original story (c1865) by Wilhem Busch and translated by Shibutani Shinjiro. Very scarce book telling Busch's famous tales of naughty boys named Max and Moritz. In romanised Japanese, the boys are named Taro and Jiro. This is the true first edition of Volume I which was printed in January 1887. A reprint of Volume I was published along with Volume II both dated December 1888.

In very good condition. Covers with general age wear and the rear cover with some minor spotting. Minor creasing and wear to top edge.
