CDV of Baby Frank Cheney Farley Taken in Yokohama by Usui Shuzaburo
Lovely CDV on Usui's studio mount showing a nanny or wet nurse holding Frank Cheney Farley, the son of Katherine Sedgwick Cheney Farley and Gustavus Farley Jr. The nanny could be Japanese but her earring and clothing indicates she may be from mainland Asia, probably China. Inscribed on rear in pencil. Gus Farley came to Japan in the 1860s and worked for Augustine Heard & Co. before starting with two others his own business Fraser, Farley & Varnum.
