Copperplate Printed, Coloured Map of Kobe & Hiogo with directory of foreign businesses
Wonderful map edited by Muramatsu Gennosuke showing Kobe which was then considered a separate place from Hiogo (Hyogo). Now of course Kobe city is part of Hyogo prefecture although there is a ward in Kobe city named Hyogo-ku. Interestingly, at the top right the map also has a list of the consulates, hotels along with the various foreign businesses in the foreign concession ('iryuchi') and their addresses. Names (in Japanese) include W. Strachan, A.H.C. Haselwood, Smith,Baker & Co., Cornes & Co., H. Ahrens & Co., C. Illies & Co., H.E. Reynell & Co., A.C. Sim & Co., Langfeldt & Co., H. Lucas & Co., J.
