The Coins of Japan by William Bramsen Scarce publication
Part I - The Copper, Lead and Iron Coins Issued by the Central Government. Reprinted, with modifications, from the Mittheilungen der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Natur-und Volkerkune Ostasiens, August 1880. William Sophus Bramsen (1850-1881) was born in Denmark and came to Japan in 1871 and from 1875 worked for the Mitsubishi Mail Steam Navigation Company. In 1880 he was sent by Mitsubishi to London to study maritime law but he died the following year of peritonitis at just 31 years old while on a visit to Copenhagen. Bramsen also published a book on Japan's chronological tables. Subsequent parts were not published due to Bramsen's death.
