Privately printed work by Satow that is an important illustrated reference book on the earliest publications published in Japan by the Jesuits in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. First edition. Title page with the small previous owner name-stamp of George R. Brush M.D. U.S. Navy; in service as a surgeon & medical inspector, from 1861-1894 and back cover with his handwritten ownership note, "Dr. G.R. Brush U.S. flagship Omaha Yokohama, Japan".

Covers with wear, mostly at edges. Spine covering about chipped away and the last block of pages (pp49-54) along with the rear cover have separated but this is an easy repair if required. Contents clean and in very good condition.
