[Japan] Scarce complete set of 'The Chrysanthemum' Vols. I and II with Vol III, the larger format, 'The Chrysanthemum and Phoenix' (as the name was changed to), published from 1881-1883. An important reference containing numerous scholarly and cultural articles, discussions of various topics & illustrations, with plates (some fold-outs).

All three volumes in very good condition with only general age wear. Each with the small previous owner name-stamp of George R. Brush M.D. U.S. Navy; in service as a surgeon & medical inspector, from 1861-1894. Two volumes also with the pencil name of W. Skinner. b32090661
