Large format photo of Japanese Official in Hong Kong taken by William Pryor Floyd
Impressive albumen photo of a Japanese official holding a fan and with his short sword tucked into his kimono. The sitter was probably on his way to Europe. W.P. Floyd opened his own studio in Hong Kong in 1867. See p163 of Terry Bennett's groundbreaking work, 'Photography in Japan 1853-1912' to see the same photo.
Hong Kong. W.P. Floyd. c1869. 21.3 x 17.2cm.
Unmounted photo (though may have been mounted at edges previously) in very good condition. Only minor wear and minor creasing on rear at corners.
