Japanese Fairy Tales

Shita Kiri Suzume [Le moineau qui a la langue coupee] [The Tongue-Cut Sparrow]. Translated by Joseph Dautremer.

Tokyo. Kobounsia [Kobunsha]. 1885.

18pp. 18.2 x 12.3cm.

This is from the earliest series of Japanese fairy tales and only states the publisher as Kobunsha (not Hasegawa as well). Woodblock printed but uncoloured as issued. It seems that very few of these black and white editions were published as Kobunsha/Hasegawa soon released their series of coloured books with the same colophon dates as these true first editions.

In very good condition. Some minor worming affecting a small area towards the bottom of the book. One page with a minor stain. Covers with minor stains. Overall very good.
