CDV of Yasusaburo Ueda taken in Boston Allen & Rowell
[Japan] Nice carte de visite Yasusaburo Ueda (1855-1902) who used the family name Uejima whilst studying in Boston in the early to mid-1870s as a young man. He went on to become an industrialist who played a pivotal role in the growth of Mitsui & Co. during the Meiji era. After serving as the first manager of the company’s Shanghai branch and laying the foundation for trade in Asian markets, including China, he went on to play a central role in the company’s management as an executive director. Inscribed on reverse, 'Miss Whitman with kind regards of Y. Uiajima [sic]. Boston Feby 27th, 1876.'
