Hand painted scroll of Dutch man by Shiba Kokan (?)
Impressive, detailed work of what appears to be a Dutch man in formal wear. The scroll has, 'Dutch Man Painting by Shiba Kokan' written in Japanese on the outside in one hand, along with 'Nagasaki Resident' in another hand. The name 'Kookan' is written at the lower left part of the scroll. This could be an heretofore undiscovered work by Shiba Kokan (1747-1818) or possibly someone pretending to be him however, it is definitely, of Kokan's era.
Scroll measures 185 x 64cm. Painting itself 117 x 54.5cm.
Overall in very good condition. Some wear, marks and creasing but still a stunning find.
