Large Book of Stunning Kimono Silk Samples with 57 superb, original designs
Wonderful large format album full of beautiful colour kimono designs on silk. Bound in dark brown cloth and each sample is affixed to think paper as issued. Many samples show the beautiful, underlying silk pattern as well (as can be seen in the main picture shown here).
The name Saito Matsukichi (or Shokichi) is handwritten inside the front and rear covers. The store name is Chirisomeya (散染屋）or possibly read Sansenya.
Kyoto. ND (c1900).
58pp. 48 x 37.7cm
Overall in very good shape. Some age wear, marks and creasing to page margins. Two pages are joined together at the edge (probably by mistake) using the same tape that is at the edge of most pages. They can be separated easily. The tape was probably added by the store itself to make the pages more durable when customers were leafing through the samples. Samples themselves are very good.
