Filled with woodblock printed illustrations relating to Perry's visits to Japan in 1853/54 including Edo Bay with its defense installations shown, a list of gifts exchanged between Japan and the USA,  an image of a steam locomotive given to the Japanese, a map of North America, images of  Commodore Perry, his son, Commander Adams, "NCO Howsle", depictions of American Marines and their officers, military caps, drums, swords, band instruments, uniforms, a long with a view of an American steam-frigate.

40pp. 17.7 x 12cm.

 

Covers and string binding replaced at some point. Dark stain on cover that affects a smaller area on the first few pages. Wear at lower corners with some minor loss of text on a couple of pages. First few pages with very small worm holes. Longer worm hole affecting upper part of a few pages. A very rare book.
