Fascinating handwritten manuscript on shooting Targets to hit on animals, samurai, insects, grass and even clouds!

Handwritten manuscript showing the best points to hit when shooting targets. Those targets being animals, fish, birds, insects, grass, a mountain and a cloud! Is it a quest for perfection i.e. to teach samurai that even the impossible is possible?

 

Appears to be a copy of one of the volumes of Inatomi Ryu Teppo Densho which was first published in Keicho 12 (1607). This copy is dated Genroku 12 (1699)

 

Copied by Arakawa Uheiji (original by Kata Yosen).

 

Measures 1462 x 25.2cm (folds up to 25.5 x 10.5cm).

 

68 double pages。Accordion style.

 

Covers worn. Staining affecting edges and centre of first 15 double pages. Stain fades as you move through the manuscript. Some minor worming affecting most pages. A couple of pages starting to separate at joints. Otherwise good.
