The Tsukiji Hotel in Tokyo - Woodblock printed triptych by Utagawa Hiroshige III

Tokyo. 1870.

The Tsukiji Hotel was the first 'real' hotel in Japan and was destroyed in 1872 by fire just 4 years after having been built in 1868. The paddle steamer 'City of Yedo' ran a daily route between Yokohama and Tsukiji. On August 1, 1870 its boiler exploded just after leaving Tsukiji and 143 passengers out of 166 were killed or injured.

Unbacked, unjoined and in fine condition. One minor stain at the lower left part of the first panel.
